What Is a Pearl?
Hello everyone!
This is ISEYA.
Used in various styles,
and still beloved, 'pearls'.
They come in various colors and shapes.
Today, I'd like to delve a little deeper into pearls,
which have been cherished since ancient times.
~What are Pearls?~
Everyone. When you hear "pearls,"
what comes to mind?
・Something white and round
・Something that comes from a shell
・Looks expensive
These are probably some of the things that come to mind, right?
Pearls are considered gemstones harvested from bivalve mollusks that inhabit oceans, rivers, and lakes.
To protect themselves from foreign objects that enter their shells,
they secrete the same components as their shells, attempting to encapsulate the foreign object.
What forms into a round shape through layers of accumulation is called a pearl.

There are several types of pearls.
Here are some of the most common types:
■ Akoya Pearls
The most popular type,
harvested from Akoya oysters inhabiting the waters around Japan.
Ise-Shima in Mie and Uwajima in Ehime are known as famous production areas.
■ South Sea White Pearls
Refers to pearls harvested from white-lipped oysters that inhabit areas like Australia.
Their large size is an attractive feature, and they are popular for single-pearl necklaces, among other things.
■ South Sea Black Pearls
A type harvested from black-lipped oysters that inhabit warm waters around the equator.
They are also cultivated near Tahiti, earning them the nickname 'Tahitian Pearls'.
■ Freshwater Pearls
Pearls harvested from cultivated oysters in rivers and lakes in China.
Their vibrant colors are an attractive feature compared to other pearls.

Pearls that can accompany you as you age,
easy to match with various styles,
and will make you even more beautiful.
