What is Oystersteel?
Thank you very much for always using and visiting our store "ISEYA ONLINE".
February is coming to an end,
and in some places, you can already smell spring.
Sapporo is still in winter... The temperature feels like being in a refrigerator.
Well, today I was once again captivated by a certain word
and became curious.

"ROLEX"
Rolex continues to evoke a sense of admiration and coolness,
no matter your age.

Among popular watch brands like Rolex,
there was a word that caught my attention...
"Oystersteel"
Due to my profession, I'm familiar with "stainless steel,"
but "Oystersteel" is a term I don't hear
outside of Rolex.
What exactly is it?
I was curious, so I looked it up.

◆What is Oystersteel?◆
・While many materials like gold, titanium, and ceramic are used for the exterior of watches,
the most commonly used material is
"stainless steel (SS)."
Even within stainless steel, there are many names due to different types and compositions,
so I will omit some details, but essentially it is a material primarily composed of iron,
along with chromium and nickel.
Its characteristic feature is that it "does not rust."
From inexpensive to high-end products,
it is still widely used today.
Of course, there are different names and grades even within stainless steel.
The crucial "Oystersteel" uses a highly corrosion-resistant stainless steel called "904L,"
and this is the name Rolex uniquely uses that has become widely known.
It is still essentially stainless steel, but it is a combination of a very high-quality material
and Rolex's processing technology.
It is this meticulous attention to detail
and continuous effort that supports the popularity of "Rolex."
