Article: Japan's treasure, SEIKO

日本の宝、SEIKO

Japan's treasure, SEIKO

Hello everyone!

This is Iseya.

As you walk around town,

don't you often see "SEIKO" on people's wrists or on clocks in parks and buildings?

I'd like to delve a little into the history of "SEIKO,"

a brand that is known worldwide as a Japanese watch.

~The Birth of SEIKO~

Seiko's origins trace back to 1881 when its founder, Kintaro Hattori, established the "Hattori Clock Shop," which became the precursor to Seiko.

In its early days, the company focused on repairing and selling watches, laying a foundation that is still alive today.

Seiko has achieved many great accomplishments.

Around 1913,

the first Japanese-made wristwatch, "Laurel," was born.

In 1964, it served as the "official timekeeper for the Tokyo Olympics."

And

one of the indispensable topics when talking about Seiko is

the "Quartz Shock"

that occurred with the launch of the "Astron" in 1969,

which sent shockwaves around the world.

"Quartz" is now commonplace.

*A technology that improves time accuracy by applying voltage to a crystal.

While various countries were striving for miniaturization and conducting research day and night,

it was "Seiko" that was the first to announce it.

This was a wonderful shock and achievement that caused

a shift from mechanical to quartz.

It is still the global standard today.

Even with the widespread use of smartphones, PCs,

and many other electronic products,

Seiko's progress, with its precise, meticulous, and reliable technology,

never stops.

Many products are still

being released into the world.

Please enjoy "Seiko,"

the "Made in Japan" brand that Japan boasts to the world.
